Where Is It Located?
Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad can be spotted in Frontierland, a themed land that pays tribute to the American Old West, located in Magic Kingdom Park. Upon entrance into the main Park, Frontierland is positioned between Adventureland and Liberty Square and features an array of attractions, restaurants, and shops that transport guests back to a time of cowboys, saloons, and gold rushes. To get into the ride itself, it is located near the Rivers of America and the Tom Sawyer Island rafts. The queue winds through a themed mining town, complete with waterfalls, tunnels, and explosives, while the ride on its own is a large mountain that dominates the skyline of Frontierland and can be seen from various areas of the park. This means you will not miss it in the slightest bit when heading to the coaster!

Thrilling Scale 1/10
This ride is the ideal choice for anyone in Magic Kingdom at the time! I say this because if I had to give it a thrilling scale out of 10, it would be smack dab in the middle. It surely is not Kingda Ka, but it also isn’t a kiddie ride. While it may not be as intense as some of the other rollercoasters at Disney World, it still has flashes of excitement and sensation that will leave you feeling exhilarated.
The coaster reaches a top speed of 35 mph and features sudden drops, twists, and turns that will give you a rush of adrenaline at times in the ride. However, it is still a family-friendly ride that is suitable for children and adults of all ages, with a height requirement of only 40 inches. So, if you’re looking for a quality coaster that won’t leave you feeling too dizzy or disoriented, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is the perfect choice for you!

Highlights Of The Ride
Every ride in Disney World has its own quirks and unique attributes to it, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is just another case of that! Below, I am going to list a few of my favorite parts while voyaging throughout:
- Triggering explosives on the mountain—This is at the top of my list for several reasons, with the greatest one being that no one that goes on the ride really knows how to set them off. Good thing I am here to tell you how to do that as I am a fanatic for finding the easter eggs that Disney World loves to leave for its parkgoers to figure out. When you are in the waiting queue before the ride, pay close attention when you are passing by the Explosives Magazine room. In this room, there will be a list of commands around you that will say how to specifically use the cranks and plungers on the ride to set off a slew of explosions. My family and I love to shock the other riders around us when we are able to set them off!
- Train names— This does not necessarily involve the rides experience itself, but I had to include it as I absolutely love the names they have given to each train that you have the ability to ride on. The six train names are I.M. Brave, I.B. Hearty, I.M. Fearless, U.B. Bold, U.R. Courageous, and U.R. Daring. They are the perfect set of names to get you on the edge of your seat before you are able to blast off from the train station at the beginning of the ride.Â
Is It Worth The Wait?
Due to its unique setup and environment that the ride presents on a consistent basis, it is certainly worth the wait that you may endure before being able to get on it. Although you will see its pure popularity through the long queues that can often accompany it, the complete immersive experience as well as the theming and attention to detail truthfully set it apart. One thing I will say if you are attempting to beat the lines though is to use your My Disney Experience app to your advantage as it will give you a grasp on what the line is looking like. Additionally, at Disney World’s peak times, you can see the line wrapping around from outside, so be sure to use your judgment if you are in a rush and won’t be able to wait in the extended line.
